I have studied your letter again.
You say you have aligned notches on the end of the camshaft with lines on the
cam bearing caps.
The drive flange of the camshaft has a notch and a scribed line a little
further round.
It occurrs to me you may have aligned the notch with the line on the cam
bearing cap, and not the scribed line.
The notch is quite clearly a square shaped bite out of the drive flange. The
scribed line is like a cut with a hacksaw blade. It is this latter mark to be
aligned with the line on the cam bearing caps.
Just a thought.
