administrivia: server problems
when it happened, it had to go and do it while i was in Northern Vermont on
vacation.
the server stopped talking to the network sometime last week; i found out
when i went back to work on monday. i spent several hours of quality time
with the server, and got back up and running, but i'm still not 100% sure
what caused it to drop off the network -- it didn't crash, but just lost
its routes.
(for unix/linux types who want to know about obscure possibilities -- there
is a remote possibility the server was hacked; while i was gone, a root
shell exploit of a common pop3 server was publicized. if you are running
eudora's qpopper, make sure you're using 2.52 from the qualcomm web site,
http://www.eudora.com/; i upgraded the server yesterday, and reinstalled a
bunch of the OS software on the offchance that hacked versions of some
utilities might have been installed.)
it's mostly better now; i still have a bit of work to do on the boot
initializations so that they run properly.
