Thanks to  those with diff suggestions in response to my recent posting
about bad noises in the rear. The problem is a broken gear, probably the
crown wheel, so I have sourced a replacement diff of the same ratio from a
2500 to install. The backlash apparently just gets too much and the gears
hit each other on de & acceleration. A rebuilt one costs about $1500
according to Triumph Tune (a mechanic shop specialising in Triumphs her in
Sydney) and my budget does not run to that.
