Dear John-o!  Cobber!

I had a similar problem with bad steering wheel vibration at
speed.  The problem turned out to be my wire wheels which aren't
round anymore!  The tire shop did a great job even balancing
them.  However, the problem was rectified greatly when we placed
the poorest wheels on the back axle - there is still some
vibration, but quite acceptable, and the steering wheel remains
level.  Perhaps if you rotate your front tires to the rear, you
may get a better result.
