The light bulb went off in my big head when someone mentioned oven 
cleaner and plastic models.
Easy Off is the brand that is recommended. It removes enamel model car 
paint from model cars with some scrubbing in warm water. Don't forget to 
wear gloves. It may not work on all automotive finishes, but the guy who 
has overspray all over his plastic probably didn't spend big bucks on 
good paint either!
