Need help with Wheel and Tires size.

I have a 85 535i with 200/60/390 tire and original rims.

Brought rims from a 2000 740i.  Rim size 16x8"   120x5 23mm offset.

Rim fits but not with tires.   tire size 236/60/16.

Needs new tires.

Which is the best size tires for the car and rims. 

Looking at 225/55/16 or 215/55/16.

205/55/16 might be too narrow for rims. 

Is the rims too wide for this car?
