After the radio beeps, you must re-start entering the code from scratch.
If you, or someone else, had already tried entering the code three (3) 
times and did not succeed, the radio had gone into "I am stolen" mode and 
is no longer accepting any codes. You need to leave ignition and radio on 
for 60+ minutes with the radio showing 'CODE'. Go for an hour's drive 
without the tunes (take your better half and listen to her) and try 
entering the code again. By that time the code will easy work, or you will 
have earned enough brownie points with your SO to upgrade the head unit.
