To buy or not to buy

Hello all,

    I have been a "member" for a little while now but I have not introduced
myself as of yet.

My name is Dave Orr, I live in Loveland OH. I currently own a 1988 528e that
my Dad
found totaled. The previous owner ran over a semi tire and bent the frame
and gas tank
up some. The frame is fixed but I haven't messed with the gas tank. My Dad
owns
Orr's Autobody in Cincinnati so fixing the frame was not too much of a
problem. He does
alot of work for the BMW store here in Cincinnati. Before the E28 I owned a
1993 318is,
this was a fun little car to drive. My family is also into drag racing, we
have a couple dragsters
and some other cars, most of them are Chrysler Hemi powered but I currently
run a big block
Chevy.

The main reason I am writing is to ask about a 1988 735i / E32 I have a
opportunity to purchase
for 2K. The car is in decent shape but have some serious electrical
gremlins. The power locks
used to lock and unlock themselves, the current owner spent over 4K with the
dealer to get them
fixed but they ended up disconnecting the locking system. Currently the car
will drain the battery
overnight. The odometer has reset itself to zero. I drove it yesterday and
it runs great but it also
needs brakes, struts, a heater core and of course the electrical problem
solved. Some other clues
on the electrical problem, the windows sounded like they were barely opening
and closing when
I started the car. The dash says something about a sensor but it is in
German and I can't read it.
(Does anyone know how to switch it to english? I looked in the manual but
didn't find anything.)
It has 174K miles on it.

Any advice is appreciated.
