We started noticing it as more clutch travel on my 96 after I'd bought it
used. An acquaintance of mine actually suggested making a clutch stop for
me before it became evident the clutch was going. In the end, it started
slipping to the point I had to have it towed, so I would recommend taking
care of it when you first begin noticing it's slipping.
I can't answer your heavy-duty question, but Sachs is the OEM, the clutch
runs about $200, and I paid a guy $400 who doesn't speak English to install
it. It took him over a day. There is a $26 dealer-only spring-clip with a
ceramic insert you will also need for the clutch release lever. Mine had
disintegrated, as had all the cores we checked.
