Here's how to defeat the obnoxious part of ASC that grabs the throttle
out from under your foot for 4 seconds until you have returned to
driving your BMW the way BMW's lawyers would want you to:
In the ASC, there are two functions:
one, modulate the ABS brakes on each wheel as needed
two, cutoff the throttle for 4 seconds. This is done with a secondary
throttle plate that sits in front of the throttle plate that the gas
pedal operates. This plate also reduces air flow through the throttle
body due to it both the space it takes up and the interference in smooth
air flow.
The throttle cutoff is what you want to get rid of.
This comes out easily by unscrewing the screws on its rotating shaft.
Leave the shaft and the sensor connector in place.
A nice side effect of removing that plate is a touch more throttle
response and power due to the increase in air flow through the throttle
body. Maybe only 2% more flow, but any free pound of torque is worth
having.
What you have now is effectively that you can bury your foot in the
throttle around a corner or in a holeshot. The throttle stays under the
driver's control. The ABS will be modulated electronically. The effect
is what I can best describe as 'electronic left foot braking'. I find I
get predictable holeshots and lively streetcorner behavior from the rear
wheels that is quite enjoyable.
Enjoy,
