At 12:26 PM 12/11/02, bmw-digest talked about:
>Yes, I said Speedvision....to me it will "Always" be Speedvision...NOT the
>"Nascar" OOPS , I mean "Speed Channel" :-) Man, I miss the ole days of
>Speedvision. I'm not against Nascar (actually like it very much), but the
>Speed Channel is simply NOT like it used to be!
I never quite understand this when people say it - are you actually
watching Speed Channel lately? What programs from Speedvision that you used
to watch are no longer on?
I'm not trying to be argumentative, I'm honestly curious.
I've watched both Speedvision and Speed Channel, and for the programs I
watch, I have not noticed a huge difference. Oh, wait, one big difference -
they *expanded* coverage of WRC from 1 hour of race coverage to 3 hours.
They still show World Challenge, ALMS, Grand Am, Grand Am Cup, SCCA
Runoffs, F1, and are currently showing BTCC, ETCC, DTM, FIA Sportscars, and
new for this year Formula 3000. They added CART coverage this year as well.
And they still have shows like "Legends of Motorsport"and "Victory by
Design" (sorry, but he one on Porsche was pretty cool :-)).
So they took away speed boat and airplane racing and replaced it with a
bunch of NASCAR stuff - so what?!? I never watched that stuff anyway. If
taking on NASCAR (and being bought by FOX) helps to keep Speed Channel
afloat and they continue to show the above mentioned road races/touring car
action (all indications from Speed Channel officials are that they will),
then I'm all for it.
My 2 cents,
