regarding 540's and their engine displacement..

I was curious regarding the 540i directly proceeding the E28 Model of 535i,
and the engine displacement in that car, and if it is in fact the same 3.5
block as the 535 with some mods like a stroke or something.. Does anyone
have specifics on the difference, as well as any motor mount differences
that might impede loading the 540 engine into an E28 if at all possible.. ??
