Fw: Re: Cold Air Intake Question

FYI we do lots fo cold air intakes for the various imports and domestics we
get in here and I have been impressed, there is of course a increase in
intake noise, however almost all the higher end units make some power.
(from as low as 1-2 up to 21hp in one acura)

I'm sure BMW designs their intakes better then most of these economy cars
but the fact of the matter is that there IS power to be found by freeing up
the breathing on these modern fuel injected vehicles.

Thanks

Hi Dennis,

All I can offer is the theory. Cold air is denser than hot air. So
therefore there is more oxygen packed into each cubic foot of air if it is
colder. So in essence the colder the air that goes into your motor, the
more fuel can be packed into it, when mixed, and you get better combustion.
Sort of like an intercooler for a turbo, which definately shows a marked
improvement in horsepower gains. A cold air intake is on a much smaller
scale. I know that I did notice an increase on my 94 Camaro Z, when I owned
it, and bought a Lingenfelter cold air system for it. However I never
dynoed the car, and haven;t owned it in some 6 years, so I couldnt tell you
exact numbers..

Cheers
