I had a serious fuel leak in my 94 E36. It was a bad fuel sender unit/fuel
pump. The dealer replaced the fuel pump. I am not sure if the pump was
really bad or not or if it was just some gasket. I would recommend you take
it a good mechanic who can pin point your problem. But fuel pump is known
to go bad after 80-100k miles.
It can also be anything else like corroded fuel lines, fuel filter joint
etc.
Good luck
Anup
