For that budget you could get a pretty nice E28 535i or 535iS and have
some to spare for fix-its and a few upgrades.  Check the E28 classifieds
and forums at http://www.roadfly.org/bmw and http://www.mye28.com for
just the right car.  (There's an E12 528i there right now, too.)  You
might find a less-nice E34 535i or 525i in that price range too.
