E36 power seat (recline) repair question

Has anyone ever replaced the small nylon "recline" worm gear in the power 
seat gearbox?

Mine snapped over the weekend, and I'm wondering if I can get just the 
gear from the dealer, or what I'm in for.

P.S.  Does anyone know why that one gear in the box is nylon and all the 
rest are metal? My guess is that it's designed that way to spare the motor 
from burning out in the event that the seat gets stuck, thereby protecting 
the expensive (?) motor by sacrificing the cheap (?) gear.  At least I 
hope that's the logic because that would mean that I SHOULD be able to buy 
just the gear from the dealer...  : )
