740iL engines

Hello All -

I recall reading that 1994 740iL's equipped with V-8's had a compatibility
issue with gasoline in this country and engines failed at a premature rate.
BMW offered a replacement program as a result.  If a 740iL had it's engine
replaced by the factory or BMW dealership would that not be documented in
BMW's service history?

My folks purchased a '94 740 this summer and was told by the dealer that
the engine had been replaced.  Other than asking the dealer to supply
documentation, how else could this be verified?
