Engine/Body Designations

Does anyone know a good source to determine the engine and body codes for my 1999 M
Roadster?  I have searched at various sites (BMW NA, BMW, Z3 Clubs, FAQ's at this
digest) but I have been unable to find anything but the older codes.  I think I
have a E36/7 body, and a S52 engine, but I haven't found anything to confirm.
Also, if it is a E36/7 body, why the "6" and "7"...is there a difference?  Thanks
for your help.
