moonroof issues

Hi Folks -

The moonroof on my 94 325i stopped popping up for a few years back. Its slides
open and close but does not tilt upwards. The dealers and a few people that
have seen it say, the cartridge it sits in needs to be replaced ($1000) so I
have lived without that for a few years. I wanted to ask the brain trust in
this newsgroups for

- - thoughts for solutions
- - alternative ways to resolve besides wedging something in there ;-)
- - places to buy a used but a working cartridge (outer shell that the roof sit
in)
- - etc. etc.
