E30 Letter Designations

List, could anyone point me to a source that would explain all the different
letter designations (e, es, i, ic, etc.) used on different E30 (1984-91) BMW
models.  I have a Bentley manual which has some helpful information but it
does not really dwell on what each model has to offer.  I need this info to
determine which parts form which model will interchange.  Thanks in advance.
