RE: first timer at replacing front brake pads on 1988 528e

It's as easy as falling off a log. Well, almost.

A few tips:

- - you'll find the brakes to be far more accessible if you turn the
steering wheel fully left when you work in the right brake and vice
versa.

- - depending on who last did your brakes, you may have a hard time
getting the caliper bolts off. Be prepared.

- - I once did the brakes on my Volvo and found that the previous mechanic
had replaced the stock caliper bolt with a torx headed one. I spent 15
minutes trying to get the allen wrench in there before I figured it out.
Be aware of such re-engineering tricks.

- - the sensors are brittle so be careful. You can choose not to install
them. If I recall correctly, wear on the sensor breaks the circuit and
makes the brake warning light come on so if you leave them off, you just
solder the two wires together. As long as you know to check the pads
manually, who really needs the idiot light anyways?

Good luck,

Henry
