e30 computer ?

My 84 325e originally came with a # 0 261 200 021 ECU/computer.  I have
determined that this was a "early" computer and it was quickly superseded by #
0 261 200 027.  My question is whether my car (running the 021 early version
ECU) will work/run with a later "027" ECU?  I ask because I am able to get the
027 ECU rather cheaply want to install a performance chip and retain the 021
in stock configuration.
