endoscope for auto use?

Just a thought but I was wondering if it is a feasable thing to try and
construct a basic (non-bendy) endoscope type thing for auto use eg
seeing into cylinders via the s.plug hole etc etc? Anyone on the list
tried something like this or know of any projects like it. I *guess*
it's something like:


lens    fibres                   lens     cc TV device    video
cable             monitor

I don't have a clue how the optics works or how the white light get
"injected" - also short focal length lenes are needed presumably?  I see
there are tiny cameras available now - maybe they are small enough to
get into the cylinder without the fibreoptic bit? (prob cost is high
though?)
Any thoughts?
