on mine it was wrong (shorter) springs installed by
the previous owner in an attempt to lower the car. the
Z3 uses a single trailing swing arm rear suspension
and using an incorrect spring will cause major changes
in camber. this in turn leads to tyres being "eaten"
up...not to mention bad cornering.

this problem might also mean that the car might have
been in a major accident pushing the suspension out of
spec.
