<e32> gas tank leak 1990 735il

The gas tank in my wife's family sled, 1990 735il, has a leak.  If its got
more than half a tank and you  park with the driver's side facing down hill
it will leak. It almost always smells of fuel.
Ill be dropping the tank this weekend to try and find the  problem and fix
it.

Any words of advice in advance would be appreciated.
Will i find that i need a new tank? Or, is it just a  hose? Offers to sell
me parts welcome.

Id like to have it out of commission for only the day.  What parts should i
get in anticipation?
