Coupla questions on a 535i

The car in question is a 1990 535i with about 132,000
miles.

1.  Although the brake lights are working fine, I
routinely get a "brake circuit" warning on the dash
(in the electronic message center)...the brakes and
brake lights are working fine.  Any ideas?

2.  The original in-the-trunk CD player is getting
worse and worse at actually finding and playing CDs. 
I've used the CDs you insert to clean things, but no
real improvement.  Can alignment be out, and can it be
adjusted?  Any other ideas?
