The right rear side of my drivers seat actually buckled when I pushed
my shoulders up against the top of the seat to raise my butt and
retrieve a coin Id dropped onto the seat.



I bent the seat back into place, but had to repeat that procedure a few
times over the next two months and the right-rear corner became weaker
and weaker.  Solution was to repair by removing seats back cover,
sawing two lengths of two solid <curtain rod poles and wedging them in
to span the entire height of the right-rear corner of the seat.



With this rail brace in place, the seat can still do all of the
adjusting its supposed to and upper seat support has been restored.  I
probably wouldnt want to push too hard against the top of the seat, but
the seat is totally functional.

Subject: Unsupportive driver's seat in 95 M3



The back of the driver's seat of my 95 M3 isn't very supportive on the
left side. If I push back into the seat, it twists slightly. When I
talked to the dealership, they told me they think it's a broken rail,
but they also want close to $900 - most of which is labor.



I checked my Bentley manual, but besides showing that the seats do
indeed come apart it wasn't very helpful in taking them apart. I took
the seat out of the car and found lots of spare change and other odds &
ends under the seat, but I'm not sure how to get the back apart.



Can anyone point me to some info on at least getting the seat apart so I
can figure out what's happened? Or if this is something I'm better off
taking to the dealership.
