Or they just fell out.  Or the tow truck driver never put them back in after 
towing the car.  Or... (i.e., it is very common).

You can get the same ones at the dealer for pretty cheap.  Also, I understand 
that there is a way to make them stay in better (or a better mount) available 
at www.unofficialbmw.com (Ron Stygar's pages, right?) or something like that.

Your car will get quieter once you replace these.
