I know it's the end of the season to sit by the fire with a book, now that
the driving season is upon us. But I wanted to share some favorites and get
suggestions for what I should read next.
Here are my current favorite books for learning about driving:
Barber http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0837602262
Bentley http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0760305188
Frere/Hill http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0837602025
They're all focused on race driving, and each has a (slightly different)
very good presentation on car handling technique and vehicle dynamics.
I didn't like
Bondurant http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0760306036
because it has too much "Bob tells good-old-boy stories" and not enough
technique.
For a non-technique book, Dan Mazzeo recommended trying
Donohue http://www.rb.com/product.htm?code=GDDS
which I have thoroughly enjoyed. It's full of "Mark tells good-old-boy
stories" but that's OK because it doesn't purport to be instructional about
the act of driving itself. I like his approach to developing his skills,
car, and team.
For books about BMWs, visit http://www.rb.com/resource.htm?subject=4 and get
out your credit card. I haven't been disappointed yet with anything I've
found in the Bentley catalog. So far, that list includes
Roundel greatest hits http://www.rb.com/product.htm?code=GBCC
Complete Roundel http://www.rb.com/product.htm?code=BR98
Unbeatable http://www.rb.com/product.htm?code=GBUB
3-Series http://www.rb.com/product.htm?code=GBM3
E30 service http://www.rb.com/product.htm?code=B390
E28 service http://www.rb.com/product.htm?code=B588
Bosch http://www.rb.com/product.htm?code=GFIB
What is in the car section of your bookshelf, that everyone should read?
