RE: [E36] Sunroof
I had the exact opposite problem, not being able to retract the liner to
service the sunroof. In looking for that solution I will tell you that to
put the liner back in it's proper spot, you need to start with the sunroof
closed. Open the sunroof slightly (about 5mm). There is a spot (when the
sunroof is partially opened) that the liner slides freely back and forth.
You need to find this "sweet spot" to re-engage the locking mechanism. Try
sliding the liner back into place and opening and closing the sunroof. If
the liner does not track with it, go back to the first step and try again.
Hope this helps and that nothing is seriously wrong,
Mel

The sunroof liner quit retracting with the sunroof. When closed the
liner is free to slide along its guide rails. When open it does retract
with the sunroof.
I searched the B'em lists and found no help.
