E36: Clunk - Click - Clunk?

G'day folks.. here's a weird one that maybe someone would have a rough idea
what's going on. On my '97 E36 328i.. when I'm at idle sitting at a redlight
or something, I hear and feel a slight clunk in the driver side floor /
firewall area. I also kinda feel it on the brake pedal. It's almost as if
someone was knocking on the floor board. Any ideas what could be causing this?
It does this with and without the brake applied so I know it's not caused by
hydrolics. I'm thinking maybe somethign to do with the exhaust "heat", water
cooling (doubt it).. I just don't know anymore or even how to diagnose this.
