re: <E36> Thunking noise problem of the week

Have you tried driving around with the rear doors (if you have any)
slightly open? I have heard all kinds of different door-related noises
that sound as if they are coming from the rear suspension. The striker
bolts can loosen slightly (tighten), the rubber/metal striker parts can
wear (lube all metal contact parts), or rubber seals can squeak (use
gummi pflege, One grand ERV or glycerin). 

Another WAG, in my E28 the center stop light cover comes loose sometimes
and rattles. No idea if this can happen in the E36.
