My vote goes to: YES to remove the carbon.

- - If BMW wanted  an engine with more compression, they would have produced
one with 10.1:1 instead of 10.0:1 of static compression.

- - If BMW wanted pistons with hot spots on them, they would have made them
with thinner regions so they could glow red.

- - If BMW wanted a combustion chamber with a rough finish, they would have
made it instead of a regular surface.

I think it make sense.
