re: ASC trigger diameters
Having read the claims of 3% difference in front to rear tires diameter
triggerieng ABS,
here is my experience:
All on stock //M3 wheel,
Original:
225/45x17 front
245/40x17 rear
difference in diameter, none
Next:
235/40x17 front (235/40 performs overall better than taller 225)
255/40x17 rear
4.2% difference
No problems with ASC triggering due to diameter.
This gave best limits of adhesion with slight loss in straight line
acceleration.
Current:
235/40x17 front (same as previous)
245/40x17 rear (back to original)
3% difference
No problems with ASC triggering due to diameter.
This gives best maneuverability, steering response, and overall handling
in street and transitions and is the combination I recommend for any
street //M3.
Btw, 235/45 and 255/50 are the same diameter so there would be no ASC
concern if you choose this combination, though 235/45 hurts both
handling limits and cornering response on the front end versus 235/40.
My favorite way to zip around a curve:
Please recall that you can disable the throttle part of the ASC by
removing the throttle plate, and that leaves you effectively with
electronically controlled left foot braking. This lets you keep your
foot into the pedal while having the computer modulate the wheels.
Hope this helps.
