Ok I replaced the front struts with Bilsteins and also the rear. Front
springs were replaced with M-3's which lowered the car about 1.5".
I was unable to get the rear springs off as with the shocks as the rear
trailing arm would hit the frame member. I think I will need to compress
these springs to get them off. Oh by the way replacing the front struts and
springs was the usual affair for an e30 but the rear shocks were a major
PITA. I still need to tighten one of the nuts that holds the shock to the
tower on the inside of the tower in the well which holds the convertible
top.
Any of you who have replaced the rear springs, I would appreciate any tips
on how you did it. I figure I will need to remove or lower the exhaust
system and I also did remove the half shafts in an attempt to get more
clearance. Most spring compressors don't look like they will fit in that
area.
Observation.
I thought that the front struts would be shot and the springs felt way too
soft for this car and figured that the rear shocks would still be OK. Well
the fronts were gone and the M-3 springs really tightened up the front end
movement. Also if I had to do it over again I would leave the rear shocks
alone as they were fine.
Thanks
Brad Purvis
