boogered torx head bolt on bellhousing

Hello again everyone,
I'm in the process of removing the transmission for a clutch job on my 89
325i, and I've got everything off except the bell housing bolts. I broke one
loose, although it required a lot of torque to do it, the second one I went
after was the one all the way at the highest part of the bell housing.
Unfortunately, I didn't have the socket seated all the way on the to the
head, and when I torqued on it boogered up the splines of the bolt head
pretty good. I've spent all afternoon messing with it, and with a hack saw
blade and a file, I think I've made some progress towards getting the socket
to fit back on the bolt head. I'm hoping there is enough of the head to get
the sucker out once I clean it up.
As difficult as this sucker was to get to, I'm thinking I'm not the first one
to do this. Has anyone been there and gotten through it? Care to tell me
how you did it?
This has not been a fun day.
Thanks for any suggestions on this one,
Jake Hahn
