Over the past several months I have been plagued with central locking
problems where the locks would come right back up after pushing them down.
Also I would blow the central lock fuse occasionally, which would leave the
car ( a 94 325iS) completely disabled. My local tech and the Roundel tech
specialist suggested a lock tumbler microswitch in one of the doors but I
just didn't have the time lately to pull each door apart and troubleshoot
the microswitch. A couple days ago I went to start the car after about a
week of non-use and the battery was completely dead. I recharged the batt
and noticed that the trunk light stayed on with the switch plunger pushed in
if I would swing the trunk lid. If I flexed the cable bundle that goes from
the right rear quarter to the trunk lid it would come and go. Just for fun,
I tried the door locks and the problem would come and go also! I stripped
open the cable sheath at the place where it flexes the most and found almost
every wire either stripped or broken. I cut the wires that were stripped
and joined them with butt splices and taped I up well and the car is
behaving itself again. Just thought that I would pass this on in case
anybody is having similar problems.
