Folks,
I am looking for some insight as to what could be wrong?
Problem: On my 88' 735i with 125K miles, which BTW is in a great shape, I just
found out that the both the rear tires are badly worn out from inside edge
while rest of surface of the rear tire(s) are just fine. Also the front
tires are un-evenly wearing out. The tires are Yokohama's with Z rating and
about one year old. I don't feel any pull or push in one particular direction
while driving the car - it drives rock solid even if I leave my steering
wheel.
Background: I had the front and rear shocks replaced at a local BMW
specialist mechanic about 4 months back. The mechanic put new Bilstein Shocks
for front and rear and also replaced bump stops for rear. The tires were also
balanced at that time and my mechanic didn't say anything about the conditions
of the tire - which makes me think that all the tires were in excellent shape
at that time as he normally points out any out of ordinary things in my car.
My mechanic tells me that he didn't do any alignment changes at the time of
replacing the shcks as that is not required. I am thinking that this abnormal
wearing out of tires is a result of changing the shocks as everything was
great until then.
Please let me know your expert opinion?
Thanks in advance,
