RE: Zaino or Zymol
I've read that Zaino is not well-suited to European paint formulations. I
have two black cars ('00 540i/6 and '01 VW GTI). I use Zymol Carbon on both.
My experience with Zymol is that it goes on easily and lasts extremely well
if you follow the directions:
- - I can wax the 540 in under an hour -- that includes applying the wax,
removing it, and buffing twice.
- - My GTI is an outdoor car. The wax I applied last October was still beading
water in April.
Here's what I do:
- - I apply the wax front-to-back and back-to-front (NOT IN CIRCLES!!) using my
fingers and hand, doing small sections. For example, I do the hood of my 540
in 8 sections. I do each door in two sections.
- - After applying the wax on a section, I use a small terry towel (about the
size of my hand) to completely dry the wax. It leaves a slight haze. As the
surface of the towel picks up wax, it turns blue. I turn the towel to a
clean surface when it no longer dries effectively.
- - Once the whole car is done, I buff it with a microfiber towel to remove the
remaining wax.
- - I buff again with a flannel detailing towel.
After that, I try to let the car sit in the sun for 30-45 minutes, as this
sets the wax.
Like I said, I've used these techniques on my Bimmer and VeeDub (also my
father's Acura -- detailing it was my Father's Day present to him), with
outstanding results.
