while on the a/c subject

my daughter's '85 320/6 [ 2 ltr babay six] a/c cools great , but freezes
up...you have to turn off the unit for 15 miniutes for it to thaw and
drian before you can use it again...

it running r-12, and is fully charged, although this symptom is a sign
of a low charged symtoms...

any ideas , suggestions??/
