1988 528e -- O2 Sensor light needs resetting?

O2 sensor light went off a day or two before I lost the last half of my
muffler (post converter).  Two days later I replaced muffler, but light
remains.

Question is, does light need resetting or is it totally separate from muffler
system and I really do need O2 sensor replaced?

f.y.i., I replaced sensor almost 4 years ago at 96,000 and mileage is circa
135,000 today.
