Welcome to the "brake light circuit" failure. Here's what you have to do.
Above your brake pedal is a brake light "switch" they cost about $10 or
less.
Buy one from your local dealer and replace it. It's kind of a bitch to get
out, I just asked a dealer service guy to change it... took 30 seconds.

It's a really common problem. DONT let them talk you into you leaving the
car, or paying service charges it's a waste of your time and money.
