Funky A/C on E36
Hi everyone,
I have a '95 325is...and am baffled by the way the A/C has been acting. Since
I got the car in March, the compressor always clicks on and off when I run
the A/C. Figuring it was low on freon, I had it recharged, and not a mile
down the road, it began acting up again. I notice that it blows mildly cool
(but not cold, like it should be) air for about 3 minutes and then I can feel
it click on (the car jolts when it clicks on, is this normal?) and it'll blow
cold air for about 30 seconds, and then go back to mildly cool air. It seems
to act up more when it's hot outside, but nonetheless, it still acts up in
cool weather or at night. I took it to my BMW mechanic, and when he opened
everything up, he said it was low on freon, and I had just had it
recharged--he said there may be a possible leak, and perhaps it's in the
evaporator core. I don't know what I should do...repairs to the evaporator
core would require the dash being taken out and more costly than I'd like if
there is a simpler solution. A friend of mine's compressor was clicking on
and off due to a bad pressure switch, perhaps this could be the answer?
PLEASE offer any help, it's summer and scorching! Thanks a lot,
Lorenzo Russo
