In my last e30, I did have one of the wires within the rubber boot between
the door pillar and the door go bad on me - they get cold-worked a bit with
each door opening, and can get brittle and break. A PITA to fix, so I hope
its not that. Bently sez that the wires of interest are VI/GY and BK/GY
on the passenger side for either 4 door or 2 door models.
