E30 M3 Instrument Cluster Problem

Hi All,

It has been 5 years since I have been on this list, so I am glad to be back.
(-: Of course I have a problem and I am not sure who to turn to.  I have an
E30 M3 (1988) and I was adding a new BMW shifter/boot with backlight and by
mistake I got the power wires crossed and suddenly the dash lights went out!

So I have no backlighting on the dash board.  The headlamps turn on, but no
backlight on the dash.  There is also no current to the lamp that is inside
the ash tray (when the light-knob is pulled out).  I tried putting the key
in the ignition and turning on the lights, etc.  I checked all the fuses in
the fuse box that is in the engine bay and they all seem to have
conductivity.  Boy I really hope I didn't blow anything.

Can someone help me?
