Sorry, I thought you were serious.   There's lots of deaf folks out there
especially now with the "boom trucks" running around.

Actually, I believe I mentioned 98 dba as my preferred listening level
these days. That's well below the damage causing levels.  I have no
symptoms of tinnitus. I recommend earplugs because it prevents the
damage you mention, but still allows you to 'feel' the music in your
bones.

If the live sound guys would just keep things to peaks of no higher than
100-105db, you don't need to use the earplugs at all, and you still hear
all the natural highs that the plugs take away.  There are custom earplugs
that sound more natural, but wouldn't it be nice to not need them?

I love doing live sound because when people first hear how good this stuff
can sound, they start to expect it, and that raises the standard for
everyone.

Sorry Don, you lost me on this.  What's your point?  I'm not stuck on
R&R, I really like the Blues a lot these days.  Is there any way you can
send a sample of your work?  Perhaps a MP3 file.  I'd love to hear your
work.  What's your style? Dickie Bets, Stevie Ray, B.B King, Gary Moore,
Muddy Waters?

The point was apparently not relevant to your situation.     But there are
still millions of fans and thousands of underpaid/undereducated live sound
people to whom "rock n' roll" means deafening people.   It's stupid, and
will certainly result in huge litigation sooner or later.   The thing that
bugs me is when I mention this to some of these industry people, they just
smirk and say "it's rock n' roll mannn", hence the analogy I made.

My own stuff sounds like a bit of Pete Townshend, a bit of Stevie Ray, a
bit of Jimi, and lots of BB!   Working on a demo, and don't have anything
to send out right now.

For those of you who don't know, the two worst culprits in deafening
people, are headphones, and shooting high-powered pistols without hearing
protection.    Anytime you have persistent ringing that lasts for hours
after your exposure to the loud sounds, you have permanently damaged your
hearing.
