Service reccommedations (San Francisco)

Hello All....

I have a question or two if I may:

I have worked my new(used) 93 E36 down to one green light on the service
indicator, and am planning what to do when that special little yellow light
comes on.  When we got the car at the end of July, it had 3 green lights,
and I asked the service people at BMW San Francisco (where the car came
from) what I should do when it was time for service.  He said since they
already did a 100+ point inspection on the car before they sold it to us,
that when the service interval comes on, no matter what it says (i.e. oil or
inspection) to just change the oil, and then next service interval do an
inspection 2.

So the questions:
1.  Is he right?
2.  Do I really need to spend $186.00 for an oil service at BMW of SF?
3.  If not, where is a good place in San Francisco to have things like oil
service (and transmission service) done?
