Open Track Event: (repost)

I posted this last week, and Friday is filling up fast, mostly
with BMW's. If you want some last-of-the-season track time,
here is your chance.

If you live out East, or are otherwise not interested in th
upcoming FIRST ANNUAL BMW/PORSCHE/VIPER
PAHRUMP OPEN TRACK EVENT, just delete this letter.
I will post this notice a couple more times. I'm not
making any money on this, so I guess it doesn't qualify as spam.

I have had a dozen inquires already, mostly about "Where is
Pahrump, and what kind of a track is it?"

It is a private track that was built by Rupert and Anne Bragg-Smith, for
the main purpose of conducting their Corvette/Viper/Camaro driving
schools. The track is also available for private rental, and since it only
opened a few months ago, it is still relatively unknown, and therefore
available. For those of us who have run on this track, it is a secret
gold mine. 2.2miles, 16 turns (depending on the configur- -ation), lots
of elevation changes, big sweepers, fast straights; it is a very
technical and fun track. A small map, and a description of Rupert's
school can be seen at their Web site:

http://www.bragg-smith.com/index.html

The actual name of the track is "Spring Mountain Motor Sports Park,"
located about 2 miles south of Pahrump, which is, if anyone is interested,
one of the only towns in the country (even in Nevada) that has legalized
brothels! If that's not for you, there are also several casinos and
hotels, with some pretty good restaurants. The Nevada buffets are
amazing; huge assortment of food for very little money. They want you to
spend your money in the casino, of course, but after a full day at Spring
Mountain, you won't have much time or energy left for gambling OR
brothels.

The rest of the previous notice is below, including a very important
disclaimer that might not have been on previous posts:

This is NOT A RACE, but it is NOT A SCHOOL, either. It is not sponsored
or certified by any club, group or marque. You will have to check with
your own insurance company to see if your car is insured during this
event. You will be required to sign a full waiver, and will be required to
accept full resonsibility for yourself and for your car.

NOTICE: FIRST ANNUAL BMW/PORSCHE/VIPER
                    PAHRUMP OPEN TRACK EVENT

The true track junkies haven't had enough! With winter
fast approaching, we need to lay down what's left of our R
rubber before we put on our snow tires, and here is our chance.

Nina Cooper of the Las Vegas Viper Club has rented the Pahrump
track on December 5th. Wanting to make the long haul worth it,
I arranged to get the track as well on Friday, December 4th.

Saturday will be an Open Track Event, with instruction for those who want
it. Run groups will be set up, grouping the fastest/faster/students, at
least for a start. As the numbers of cars will be relatively small (less
than 50 is assured), it is likely that the afternoon will not be grouped,
but will truly be "open track." Meaning, run until you have no more
tires, brakes, or brains.

Friday, where the numbers will be even smaller, will be open track all
day. Again, for those who want instruction, it will be available.

SAFETY will, as always, be the prime issue (with FUN being a close
second). Passing zones will be defined, with point-by's appreciated but
not required, except in the instruction group.

Registration on Saturday is at 8am, with tech inspection at the same
time.SA 90 helmets required, as are closed toe shoes and long sleeves and
pants. Roll bars/cages not required for either day. Write to me if you
intend to run an open car. No open *wheel* cars, of course.

     (new, regarding Hotel)
> There will be a big desert race that weekend, so Pahrump is booked. we
> will be staying about 50 miles away, over ther hill at the Silverton
> Hotel right off I-15 and highway 160 (southern outskirts of LV). RV
> owners may park their rigs and stay at the track if they wish. For
> those of us who stay at the Silverton, it will involve only one extra
> trip over staying at Pahrump, that being going to LV on Friday pm, and
> returning to Pahrump on Saturday am. Let us know your wishes now so that
> we can make the reservations. More details on the Silverton to come,
> but it will be reasonably priced.
>
> Good dinners as well as fast food is available in Pahrump. There are
> all the major gas stations, including Chevron and Gulf. Pahrump has
> mechanics and tire services, and medical services as well. Not to
> mention brothels.

Tires and brakes go fast at this very technical track, so come prepared.
Pahrump has several good mechanics, and tire mounting shops.

COST: You won't believe this; $100 per day, *or less* (depending on
numbers)! You can pay for Saturday on that morning, but if you want to be
assured of a spot on Friday (we are going to keep the numbers very low
<vbg>), you will have to pre pay. Contact me by email, and then we will
go from there.

Pahrump is located on Route 160, approximately 60 miles North of Las
Vegas.

For additional info, call Nina Cooper at (702)367-3776, or email
her at [email protected]

Or, email me with questions, but please try to keep them generic, as
I have a real day job. Hope you can join us!
