<E28> Gets stuck in first gear.

Hi everyone,
Once again I turn to the collective minds of the digest. 
I have an 83 528e automatic (okay okay... no jokes about the slush box
please!). When the car is cold (not driven for about four hours), it would
always get stuck on the first gear. I tried shifting the gears to no avail;
its still stuck on the first gear. After driving about a mile or two (or
when the temp needle gets out of the blue zone) it works fine. I went ahead
and replaced the transmission fluid as well as the filter but it still does
it. Has this happen to you? What did you do to fix it? Any thoughts or
suggestion? Please send me a copy of your msg  when you reply.
