Ken, 
  This may or may not apply - these comments are based on my experience
with my E30.  My understanding is that the unit is an altitude compensator
of some sort.  I relocated the device to the upper airbox mounting
bracket.  There is a threaded stud on the outside, towards the front of
the bracket.  I found that the altitude compensator unit (?) threaded
right onto that stud.
